TEMBEA is a bag brand founded in 2004.
Each bag is designed with a unique purpose. Some bags are designed especially to carry bread, other for toys, newspaper, textbooks, vegetables and so on.
We choose canvas fabric and find inspiration in it. The style and shape must be quaint and simplistic.
The Materials used change to a softer texture as you use these bags, just like jeans become accustomed to your body.
Most of the bags have no partitions or pockets. Our approach is keep them free and simple.
TEMBEA means “Wandering”. The bags make you feel like exploring with them. We aim to make long lasting products as a tool that pursues timeless design.
Many of our bags are made of special cotton canvas that has been treated with paraffin, a type of wax that repels water.
The yarn in our canvas is made of combed cotton fibers.
This yarn is very strong and firm because of the combing process, which selects the longest cotton fibers and makes them straight and clean before they are spun into yarn.
This also gives the yarn a distinctive, lustrous appearance. Because it is woven with an old-fashioned shuttle loom, our canvas has a solid selvedge edge.
The looms that makes our canvas have been working for 40 or 50 years. The beautiful selvedge is one unique point of our canvas, and we often use it as part of our designs.
